A 45-year-old trader, Izuchukwu Nnaji, was on Wednesday charged with stealing three bags of crayfish worth N75, 000 at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Nnaji, who resides at No. 54, Adeshina St., Oke-Odo, Agege, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretences.
The accused committed the offences sometime in September 2017 at Ile-Epo Market, Agege, the Police Prosecutor Unah Mike, told the court.
According to him, the accused collected three bags of crayfish valued at N75, 000 from the complainant, Mr Obasi Samuel, with a promise to pay back as soon as he finished selling it, but failed to do so.
The offenses, he said, contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Section 287 provides three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 stipulates 15 years for obtaining under false pretenses.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 30 for mention.
